These are the resources I found most useful in planning my hike. I hope they save you some time!
Books
- Coast to Coast Path: British Walking Guide by Henry Stedman — This is the one I’d recommend above all others. Practical, detailed, and packed with everything you need for planning and on the trail. It’s coming with me in my pack.
- Hiking the Coast to Coast (e-book, Apple Books) — A great combination of trail guide and personal travel journal. Useful for both planning and getting a feel for what the experience is actually like.
Personal Blogs & Diaries
- Craig Calcaterra’s Coast to Coast — A beautifully written personal account of the walk.
- Splodz Blogz C2C Adventure Journal — Detailed day-by-day journal with great practical info.
- Cajun Limeys — A fun account of a family adventure — an American/British couple, their two teenage kids, and friends tackling the route together.
- Chasing Cairns — A father and son adventure, written by the son. A quicker read than the others, with shorter daily posts.
Websites & Planning Info
- coasttocoast.uk — A beautiful compilation of photos, route details, and an interactive map, by the same team behind the Hiking the Coast to Coast e-book.
- Paul Beal’s C2C Guide — Detailed stats, maps, and links to the relevant OS Maps for each segment.
- Rambling Man — Excellent trip planning advice.
- Mac’s Adventure — Eating & Drinking on the C2C — Useful guide to – you guessed it – food and drink along the route.
- Walking Englishman — Interactive map and journals from his hikes in 1994 and 1999.
- Holly Worton’s Planning Guide — A thorough planning walkthrough, and a great first read to help you decide if the C2C is right for you and think through all the key considerations.
